Many thanks to all the parents, staff and administrators for a very successful Math Forum. Here is a report on the outcome of the meeting on May 23.

1. In the Fall the school system will switch to full K-6 Everyday Math.

2. All teachers will be trained in Everyday Math this summer. Everyday Math is teacher friendly and easier to teach.

3.This summer they will either make or buy a basic facts supplement that must be used consistantly through the classrooms. This could be AddisonWesley or something else.

4.Their goal is consistancy in the program. The teachers will be trained during the year as well.

5. There will be monthly meetings with math teachers at different grade levels .

6. There will be quarterly feedback from building administrators to Terry Walters and the Math Committee.

7. They will align the report cards with the curriculum.

8. There will be a parent night in the fall.

9. 6th grade accelerated math will not be eliminated.  Because of the great number of new staff in the 5th grade they still have not decided whether they will teach 5th grade accelerated math in 5th grade.  They will make that decision this summer.

10. They spent over 2 1/2 hours reviewing parent input from last night and the curriculum sheets and came up with 16 items of concern.  They answered 12 of them.  A copy will be available next week and it will be posted here.

11. The teachers thought the forum last night was constructive not negative.  They had many of the same concerns.

12. The MEAP scores will be out in two weeks sooner than he first thought.

13. They got the money to do the complete K-6 program by eliminating a new spelling curriculum they were going to purchase.
